John's birth registration appears under both Seitz and Sykes, and his marriage certificate (1907) uses Sykes. However, he was interred under the name Seitz.
John was convicted of the following offences:
- 23 April 1906 - drunk and disorderly - sentence of ten shillings or 4 days hard labour
- 9 November 1906 - assault - 10 pound 6 shillings or 3 months hard labour
- 30 March 1907 - riotous behaviour - ten shillings or 3 days hard labour
- 24 June 1907 - assault - one month hard labour
- 17 October 1907 - perjury - 12 months hard labour
In 1907, John was recorded as being 5 foot 7.5 inches, 140 pounds, brown hair and blue eyes.
John resided in Concord Road, Concord before moving to 27 Windmill St Millers Point and then 18 Kent Street Millers Point.
John died in 1958 in the Randwick Auxillary Hospital of chronic pulmonary tuberculosis and heart blockage. He was cremated on 8 May 1958 in Norther Suburbs Crematorium and is interred in Lot 3 A5 Catholic Portion, Northern Suburbs Cemetery, NSW.

Sykes, John Alfred - May 6, 1958, of 18 Kent Street Millers Point, dearly loved husband of Gertrude (Sis) Sykes, loved father of John, Edward, Joseph, Gertie, Edna, William, Ray, Gloria, Laurie and Allan, dear grandfather and great-grandfather of their children. At Rest.
