Well, I personally don't believe that the Robertson name would have been so pervasive through descendants if David Edney's wife Janet was not a Robertson by birth. The corollary being Janet didnt re-marry. Her marriage to David gives her father as a taylor. The baptism we have in 1785 to Margaret Ritchie (Janet's daughter was also named Margaret) & James Robertson lists him as a smith. Two quite distinct occupations? I see that there are a number of other baptisms on the IGI to a James Robertson & Margaret Ritchie, perhaps one of the later ones might give James a different occupation, perhaps taylor? If so, it would align with Janet's marriage to David Edney and strengthen the link to the baptism in 1785 to James & Margaret Robertsonnee Ritchie. Another possibility is to check the marriage certs of the other Robertson daughters to see if they list their father as James Robertson, taylor or smith.
